The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the US on five Europeans involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
